Santo Domingo is currently experiencing a boom in shopping mall development. In recent years, new malls have been built to cater to the city’s growing middle and upper classes. Many shops located in the malls will stay open even past 9 pm, seven days a week. Here you can really shop ‘till you drop.
The Malecón is a long avenue that runs parallel to the ocean and the Avenida George Washington. It offers a great walk along the coast line and is best enjoyed on Sundays, when all motorized vehicles are banned and it becomes a broad pedestrian-only thoroughfare.
